Elementary is going to have a busy week. We kick off Red Ribbon Week this week. Please see the graphic below for daily dress up days. Elementary does have a slight different schedule than Secondary. On Wednesday, our 4th-6th graders will perform their Halloween concert. Thursday is Halloween, a Big House Day, and an early release. Friday is the end of the six weeks, so we will have our regularly scheduled half day. On Friday, we will celebrate Authors Day with our very own children's book author, Mrs. Dannetta Shelburne.
We have had to make a few adjustments to the calendar due to the State Cross Country Meet being held on November 1st for both Plains and Smyer..
- October 29th --JH Football game
- Due to the Varsity Football game being moved up to allow travel time for the State Cross Country meet, we will be moving the Halloween Concert for the 4th-7th Grade Bands to Wednesday, October 30th at 2:30 pm. Please check out the attached flyer!
- October 31st--Early Release
- October 31st--Varsity FB @Plains 1pm
- October 31st--Pep Rally 9:00 Send off
Students can wear their costumes on Halloween. Masks may not be worn during school, and please no heavy face make-up during school. No scary costumes (blood). Students may not bring accessories such as swords, wands, etc. (We do not want them lost, and some are not appropriate for school).
Elementary would like to thank the secondary staff and students for putting on a great Fall Festival for our community. I hope all that came had a great time! Thank you to all that donated your time and candy.

We kick off our RED RIBBON week starting Monday wearing RED! Students will get to showcase their "Pledge" to be drug free by having fun taking pictures in front of the movie stage back drop. This will be a lot of fun, but also a way to encourage students to have the power in making healthy life choices.
How parents can help with communicating healthy choices:
1. Talk to your child about the dangers of substance use.
2. Teach your child it's ok to say "no that's not for me"
3. Encourage a safe and healthy environment for kids to communicate with you.
4. Set rules and consequences for kids to not use drugs.

This week, with the early end to our marching contest season, we learned some new stand tunes and started our Veteran's Day music. We have students learning the All-State track music and will begin our JH Honor Band Audition Music with the 8th graders on Monday. Our 4th-7th Graders have been working hard to prepare for the Halloween Concert on Wednesday and it should be lots of fun!
Halloween Concert for 4th-7th Grade will be on Wednesday at 2:30 pm in the auditorium.

This school year we are going to focus on student attendance. Some say it takes 10,000 hours of quality practice in somthing (sports, music, reading, math) to become an expert in it. When a student misses school they are losing the ground to become the best they can be.
If a student misses 10 days in school year = 4,930 minutes/82 hours of instruction lost
If a student misses 10 days a year every year during their elementary years, they will have missed: 34,510 minutes/575hours of instruction. WOW!
We want our kids to be set up success and not struggling to make up the exposure they lost from being absent! This year we are going to have a STRIVE for FIVE goal--no more than five absences for the school year.
